Säume und Blumenhecken

Säume verbinden zwei unterschiedliche Lebensräume, wie z.B. Hecke und Wiese, markieren Randbereiche im Garten oder bieten als hochwachsende Blumenhecke blühenden Sichtschutz.

Sie benötigen nicht viel Platz, beherbergen die imposantesten unserer Wildstauden und sind ein Paradies für Insekten und Vögel.

Die verblühten Samenstände bleiben den Winter über stehen und dienen als natürliches Körnerfutter für unsere Vögel, in und an den Staudenstängeln überwintern Insekten.

Blumenhecken brauchen nicht viel Platz,ein sonniger Streifen, der 50 cm breit ist,
– zum Beispiel entlang eines Zaunes – ist ausreichend. Der Boden in diesem Bereich wird gelockert, alle vorhandenen Pflanzen entfernt und ein feines Saatbett geharkt.
Dann können die Pflanzen eingesät oder gepflanzt werden. Eine Kombination aus Einsaat und Pflanzung ist sinnvoll, damit der Boden möglichst bald mit erwünschten Arten bedeckt ist.
Im Frühjahr können die Staudenstängel,die nicht mehr gefallen, abgeräumt werden. Es ist aber sinnvoll, sie an einer anderen Stelle im Garten noch ein bis zwei Jahre aufrecht zu lagern. So können samenfressende Vögel auch noch später im Jahr Samen finden. Es gibt aber auch viele Insekten, die in trockenen Stängeln
überwintern, zum Beispiel Wildbienen. Sie bevorzugen aufrecht stehende Stängel und ziehen im Frühjahr in die Stängel des Vorjahres ein. Es empfiehlt sich also, aus den abgeräumten Stängeln ein attraktives Totholzelement zu bauen. Da viele einjährige und zweijährige Arten enthalten sind, wachsen mit der Zeit immer weniger Arten auf der Fläche. Wenn sie nicht mehr gefällt, wird sie wieder umgebrochen und
neu angelegt.
Eine weitere Möglichkeit besteht darin,die Blumenhecke auf frisch angelegte Gehölzflächen zu säen, als naturnahe Alternative zur allgegenwärtigen Rindenmulchschicht.
Die schnell wachsenden Wildblumen schaffen in wenigen Monaten die Raumstruktur, die von den Gehölzen erst einige Jahren später erreicht werden kann. Stieglitzfutterpflanzen finden sich in Dörfern und in der Feldflur auf unbewirtschafteten Rainen und Böschungen. Eselsdistelflur oder Möhren-Bitterkrautflur nennen die Botaniker diese bunten Säume. Die Böden sind relativ nährstoffreich und häufiger gestört. Deshalb wachsen dort vor allem einjährige, zweijährige und kurzlebige mehrjährige Arten.
